Prince Chavdar
Ordo Dracul / Southern Court / Bulgaria
Prince Chavdar Marshal General of the Ordo Dracul, and Prince of Sliven.
Old Clan Tzimisce
Nickname: None that is repeated among his allies.
Domain: Sliven, Bulgaria
Description: Chavdar is powerfully built, if somewhat short by today's standards. Most who meet him come away with the impression that he is a much taller man. His dark hair is cut neatly against his head in a military coif, and he seems more comfortable with military armor and uniforms than modern fashion.
Notes: Chavdar holds the title of Prince for two reasons: First, he is master of the domain of Sliven, one of Bulgaria's more prominent cities. Second, he is the Marshal General of the Ordo Dracul, a knightly order composed entirely of Old Clan Tzimisce. He is rumored to have survived since the 16th century, though perhaps only his fellow knights knows for sure. It is certain that he is the last to remember a time when the Ordo wasn't an arm of the Old Clan.
Chavdar concentrates on strategic and political maneuvers for the Ordo. By the charter of the Ordo Dracul, he must not risk himself in battle unless the Order itself is threatened or other (unknown to outsiders) clauses of the charter come into play. For the most part, he seems resigned to this, though he chafes under these restrictions when he must allow Duke Damyan to take the Order into battle.
Chavdar maintains a large estate to the north of Sliven. To mortal eyes, it is a working ranch and forgotten resort, employing a large number of hands and contributing to the local economy. In reality, he trains mercenaries for use as cannon fodder in the Ordo's battles, and trains perhaps the finest warhorses remaining on the planet.
Though he can be extremely genial and tolerant of the foibles of outsiders, Chavdar is a ruthless tyrant when it comes to members of the Ordo Dracul, especially his own descendants. He is rumored to have destroyed at least two childer rather than release failures into the world, and the possibility or rumor of his presence is enough to inspire the Knights of the Ordo to greater watchfulness and heroism. Baron Mladen, his youngest, and only surviving childe, has taken lordship over the nearby town of Nova Zagora, ensuring each at least one friendly neighbor.
Among the Ordo, it is considered a great honor to be Chavdar's Squire. His squires surely have the best training available, and go on to achieve greater things. He personally oversaw the training of Count Kaloyan and Baron Yasen
