Sobriquet
"The Crimp" for his mastery of the art of the Shanghai and "Kin-slayer" for the accusation of diablerie that follow him still.
Appearance
Sullivan isn't hard on the eye and a certain percentage of men and women find his rough exterior handsome. Sean's harsh good looks come from a raw blend of hardscrabble Irish and the darker features of Mexican ancestry. But not all of Sean Sullivan's coarse appeal originates with his mortal genealogy, as a nineteenth century man who worked a dangerous profession he has more than his share of scars, not all of which were earned in labor so much as the rough and tumble amusements of the underclasses from which he originated.
Beyond the brutal physicality of Sullivan's sturdy frame, his long hair and the three days stubble, or even the crude tattoos that marked him as a sailor and pirate of his time, there is something ineffable that separates him from everyone else even among the Kindred. Perhaps it the quality of his eyes, the color and brilliance of his emerald irises as they seem to burn with untamed emotion or the unlikely bronze hue of his undead flesh after a century and a half of being cursed.
Behavior
Sean Sullivan is truly a nineteenth century man. Sean likes to drink hard or drink those who drink hard in this case and enjoys his his alcoholism. And Sullivan is very much the Irish drunk with an indiscriminate and explosive temper, a loud and vulgar mouth, and an uncontrolled bravado that makes enemies easily.
When sober Sullivan can be charming and genial company. The last one hundred and fifty-six years have put a bit of polish on Sean, but not much. The man is a braggart, a bully, a misogynist and a bigot. But these things have only lately become social sins in mortal society and Sullivan doesn't give a fig for the morality or sentiments of a weak and decadent modern age.
In fact Sullivan sees opportunity in the weakness of both this current era and humanity in general. Ambition and lust drive Sullivan in all he does and given the speed of his rise from a lowly mortal thug to the royalty of Kindred society perhaps Sean has found a recipe for success after all.
History
Sean Sullivan was born the illegitimate son of a Mexican whore and a Irish sailor in 1820. His mortal life was one of aimless wanderlust and later calculated criminality. While Sullivan served a number of years as a legitimate sailor, he also labored as a privateer, smuggler, pimp and slaver. Ironically he spent a number of years as a slave himself in North Africa after his ship was captured off the coast of Tripoli. This stint of brutal servitude didn't dissuade him from taking up the Crimping trade in 1849.
The trade consisted of boarding ships in San Fransisco Bay, often at gunpoint, to Shanghai any sailor for outgoing ships during the gold-rush when most men abandoned their contracts and crews to pan or dig for gold in the California hills. This highly profitable and unethical trade proved quite successful for two years until Sullivan and his men boarded a drifting brigantine vessel by night during the summer of 1851.
