Description

Sobriquet: Nena

Appearance: Before the Embrace Nannette was a tall and athletic young woman of African- American descent whose Cafe-au-lait complexion, angular face and waterfall of dark kinky hair gave her an otherworldly aura of wild sensuality. Augmenting this eldritch allure were dark piercingly intelligent eyes seemingly capable of peering into the souls of others. After her Embrace the blood of Caine greatly augmented her wild beauty transmuting her tanned skin into something akin to bronze and highlighting her ebony locks with streaks of gold. Her numerous early frenzies have given a vulpine cast to her already angular face and turning her dark irises sulfurous and reflective in direct lighting. Nena's elegant brows have thickened without joining and beneath her mane, her ears have been reshaped and lightly furred, but able to lie flat against her skull or flicking forward if her attention is sparked. Nena has always drawn attention even in crowded venues, now she cuts a swath through the night with her unique appearance and predatory allure, those who knew her in life would still recognize her, but they couldn't miss the transformation of her form or mien.

Behavior: Nanette has always exuded confidence and curiosity in equal and voluminous measure. These natural childhood behaviors only strengthened with time making her a precocious teen whose need to explore and learn new things put her at the forefront of her contemporaries as she searched for answers to questions the adults around her didn't necessarily want explored. Experience has honed Nena's approach without dulling her edge. Unlike most people, she accepts what she sees without judgement, keeping an open mind in her search for that next more elusive thing. A large part of her appeal to others lies in her cool acceptance of people for who they are rather than how others including herself might prefer them to be. The combination of all these traits made her an ideal investigative journalist capable of getting to nearly anyone and more difficult still, getting them to talk to her about nearly anything. Nannette is many things to many different people: to her family she is gifted, her lovers would call her carefree, to her editor she is a necessary evil, and to her friends loyal, most importantly - to her readers she is the voice of the night.

History: Nannette was born into an affluent, highly educated household, in Berkeley, California in 1982. Her parents were both tenured professors at the University of California, Berkeley and home-schooled Nena and her younger siblings before sending her to a school for the gifted. From her teen years and European finishing schools to her Ivy League Alma-mater in her early twenties Nannette stayed on the move until she landed a coveted position at the San Francisco Chronicle. The career path of journalism rather than academia drove a wedge between Nena and her parents which was further exacerbated by her choice of employer. Nannette's sudden and violent elevation to the heroine of her own kidnapping has thrown all those who knew her as they try desperately in differing ways to discover what has become of this larger than life individual now vanished as if into thin air.

Recent Events: For months in early 2007 Nannette had been on the trail of a serial-killer eponymous known as the San Francisco Slasher. The police were playing it cool, but Nannette had found a source inside SFPD. This led her to Fisherman's Warf one evening in March when the killer surfaced for a meeting. Unfortunately the killer took her and several others hostage inside a building after the cops closed in and people started dying. To complicate matters a group of vigilantes fouled up the police rescue and Nanette and the San Francisco Slasher both vanished into the night.

Or this is what the police and public believe, the truth is somewhat more complicated as Nannette's star serial-killer turned out to be a vampire and her sire after a frenzy and botched ghouling turned Nannette into a creature of the night. Truth it seems is stranger than fiction. Unfortunately, Nannette is one of those people for which the Masquerade was created and her unsolved disappearance is both sensational and difficult for the undead powers that be to dispel.

She was a investigative journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle.
