Description: In ancient Greek mythology, Tiresias was a blind prophet of Thebes who was famous for his clairvoyance. Through the paired, Lesser Principles of Sympathy and Inherency, the necromancer uses the skull of someone’s deceased ancestor to tap into the legend of Tiresias and ‘Scry’ upon a given individual. The downside to this ritual, is that the necromancer’s senses are mystically focused elsewhere, leaving him blind to his bodily surroundings.
Origin: Benesj the Black
Ingredients: The skull of a target’s ancestor.
Casting: The necromancer begins by painting the common name of the person he wants to spy on, in vitae upon the skull. He then holds the skull of the target’s ancestor between his hands, staring into its empty sockets and chants a droning mantra in Greek about the target.
System: The player rolls Intelligence + Rituals at a difficulty of seven (7). If the player botches, the character goes blind for one day for every botch rolled; if the player fails, the character wastes a point of vitae and a half hour of his time. If successful, the character can use the target’s senses for one (1) scene per successes.
If the character wishes to spy on more than one of the skull’s descendants then, he need only write that additional person’s name on the skull at the beginning of the ritual. If the caster failed to include that person, then he must recast his ritual to add that person or persons; the caster can target a number of people equal to his occult rating. The caster may shift back and forth between his senses and the senses of his target or targets at will. The skull is not consumed in the casting and can be used as often as needed.
Reference: As a comparative example, look at ‘Ori Sight’ a level three (3) necromantic ritual that achieves a similar goal on pg.83 of ‘Blood Sacrifice: The Thaumaturgy Companion’.
