Description: Malediction is any expressed wish that some form of adversity or unhappiness will befall another person or persons, a magical phrase or word uttered with the intention of bringing about evil ends, while Hypnos is the spiritual personification of sleep in the Greek pantheon. This curse then allows the necromancer to inhibit a particular victim's ability to sleep by speaking an invocation of an evil ghost's true name and drawing its attention to the victim's dreams. The evil ghost may simply prevent the victim from sleeping with simple harasment or it may haunt the victim's dreams, turning them to nightmares. Drawing the attention of the damned dead isn’t a particularly safe practice, and a miscalculation on the part of the necromancer can have dire results for the caster.
Origin: This kind of ritual is ancient and many variants exist.
Ingredients: The true name of a Specter.
Casting: In Greek, the caster invokes the true name of an evil ghost (Specter) in a curse that describes a victim’s weakness as a need for sleep. This curse must be uttered in public, but need not be performed as a spectacle; this does mean that at least one other person must hear the recitation, though they need not understand what is being said.
System: The player rolls Intelligence + Rituals at a difficulty of five (5); it takes ten (10) minutes to cast this ritual. Each of the caster’s successes equate to another sleepless night (day for vampires) in which the Specter torments the victim and each sleepless night or day results in the loss of a cumulative die from all active pools.
