Description: The greater Principle of Sacrifice states: the magnitude of the offering is equivalent to the magnitude of the gain. With that in mind, the 'Chthonian Holocaust' is a sacrificial fire in which an appropriate offering is burnt up completely. Chthonian is a word referring to subterranean spirits, exclusively associated with necromantic practice. The ritual must be cast at night, in an underground chamber - at least twenty feet deep, upon an alter and the sacrifice must be completely burned so that nothing remains but ashes.
Origin: A recreationist varient of an ancient Greco-Roman rite.
Ingredients: Fire / a proper sacrifice / an underground chamber
Casting: The necromancer invokes a chthonian power (ancestor, demon or god) usually through simple poetry, though a prose litany also suffices and then places the offering (object, oblation - for fluids, or victim if it is a ritual killing) in a pre-kindled fire; the litany must continue throughout the destruction of the offering.
System: The player rolls Intelligence + Rituals = difficulty six (6) and the casting requires thirty (30) minutes to cast. Each success equates to an additional die to be utilized in the next working, be it the invocation of a path power or ritual effect; such an action must be of a mystical nature and cannot be used for mundane pursuits. This ritual can be cast for the benefit of another sorcerer as long as that individual provides the offerning and is present for the sacrifice.
