Yukiko has been tasked by her superiors in Tokyo with a historical research mission to San Francisco. From her perspective this is an attempt by men above her to sideline her career. The mission concerns itself with a recently found secret file originated by the Kempeitai (Japanese Military Intelligence) in 1939 concerning the fictitious 7th Guard Regiment of the Imperial Guard and a supposedly lost U-boat. While Yukiko believes this mission to be a professional red-herring, if even half of what the file contains is proven correct it could make or break her career not to mention a rewrite of the history books.
