The History of Romes' Lasombra
There have always been Lasombra in Rome, always. From the nights of the ancient Monarchy, the Republic, and the Empire the Shadows of Rome manipulated events from behind the scenes. Chief among these Roman Shadows, was Sybil, the only daughter of Lasombra. For a thousand years, from the fifth century before Christ until the final fall of the Western Empire, the Queen of Shadows pulled strings throughout Italy from the center of her web in Rome. Then after the final sack of Rome in 546, nothing. It was as if Sybil had been driven out or slain, or perhaps she went to sleep. None can say for certain, especially not her childer, in whom she invested little or nothing of her plots and plans. From the middle years of the fifth century after Christ, Constantius quickly rose to prominence and became the central pivot around which all Cainite affairs in Rome rotated. He sired a large brood and drove out all other Lasombra with the blessings of the other clans.

Itinerant Lasombra
The Lasombra ancient's most newest childe, Gratiano de Veronese has only recently been released by his sire to explore the world. Grantiano's first stop on a European tour was Rome. He and his entourage arrive in the Eternal city during the long dark nights of December and they remained through the Carnival season in middle February. During the his season long respite in Rome, Gratiano made the acquaintance of many of the city's undead, including the coterie. Well will he remember those who he first played chess with and who participated in his Roman games and when the Sabbat is born he may well offer them an invitation that they cannot refuse. However, with the arrival of Lent, Grantiano and his followers departed Rome for fair Verona, Gratiano's city of birth. Unknown to them, the Plague of Serenity travels with them hidden in the blood of their mortal vessels and blood-bound servants.
During the spring and summer of 1095, there are no visiting Lasombra. The city has recently been subject to a monstrous plague that killed one third of the mortal population and the actions of a small coterie of fledglings have roused the Roman curia to hunt the undead in Rome. Few, if any, of the children of Cain would wish to enter the city under those circumstances and many of the undead have taken the opportunity to seek the safety of country fiefs or to leave Rome altogether.
As to the enigmatic creature Marconius, formerly a Lasombra and now calling himself a Kiasyd, he along with all who were involved in the Vatican necropolis robbery (February of 1095) were called to the court of the Caesar Constantius. There those responsible or their closest relatives were punished. Marconius was accused by his sibling Constantius of negligence, if not outright involvement in the crime, but Constantius deferred judgment to his grand-sire Lasombra. The Legion of Shadows came for Marconius and to him to the Castle of Shadows on Sicily for judgment by the clan progenitor. Here history takes over and Marconius will be imprisoned within the castle for the next couple centuries until Gratiano releases him after the destruction of Lasombra during the Anarch Revolt.
