Crime
It is hard to conduct a criminal organization amidst chaos. However, Thessaloniki has been a hub of smuggling activity for centuries. During the cold war, it was perhaps the most active portal through the iron curtain.

Current Events
With Greece embroiled in a low-level civil war, Thessaloniki has become for the moment independent of the remnants of the Third Hellenic Republic, still officially in charge in Athens. The city is the hub of a strong faction of the former Greek Army which, along with its hangers on and new recruits, espouses strict Anarchy. Most of the population has managed to arm itself, and neighborhood watch organizations seem to be the largest functioning governmental organizations. The anarchist militia seems more interested in spreading its philosophy by pushing other armed groups out of nearby regions.
