Description: Fallen Familiar essentially creates an undead guardian which can act as a sentinel for small objects like jewelry up to and including doorways. When an item under the surveillance of a Fallen Familiar is moved, opened or perused, the Familiar lets out an unearthly cry of rage; if the Familiar is damaged or destroyed, it lets out an unearthly cry of pain. The cry of a Fallen Familiar can be heard even in the Underworld and its cry will awaken a sleeping vampire; though that vampire must then try to stay awake.
Origin: Benesj the Black
Ingredients: To create the Fallen Familiar the necromancer needs a domesticated pet which he will blood bond over the course of three consecutive nights.
Casting: Once the animal is bound, the necromancer kills it and mummifies it. When the mummification process is complete, the necromancer can place the Fallen Familiar where ever it is most needed as a sentinel.
System: The player rolls Intelligence + Rituals at a difficulty of five (5) and expends three blood points over three nights and when the mummification is complete the caster expends one will-power to activate the Fallen Familiar. This ritual takes one (1) night to cast.
Reference: This is simply a variant of the ‘Skull of Warning’ ritual used by the Cappadocians. Details on the Skull of Warning can be found on pg.199 of the Dark Ages - Guide to the High Clans.
