The arcane bruises him with whispers—luck that arrives as a draught of cold, a talisman that will not stand long under scrutiny—but they have also taught him arcane tricks useful to a burglar: which wards to avoid, which patterns of sigils yield when coaxed, how to read a ward as one reads a lock.
