Description: In ancient Greece, the apotropaic eye was used to repel the influences of evil spirits. Modern necromancers use this timeless symbol for the very same purpose, to ward off the influences of the spirits of the dead. By invoking this ritual, the caster creates an arcane sigil of a stylized eye that causes great pain and injury to any ghost who comes into contact with it. The ritual works based on the arcane Principle of Contagion which transmits the spell upon contact, while the Principle of Inherency activates the element of fire and the essence of death contained in the ash to injure the Wraith.
Origin: Benesj the Black
Ingredients: Human ashes
Casting: The object can be warded in three simple steps. Firstly, the caster must sprinkle the object to be warded with human ash, and then he must draw a sigil of a stylized eye on one side and drone in chant over the item for the remainder of the night. When the ritual is complete, the ash is consumed by the power of the ward and the object turns a uniform gray and the stylized eye is only visible to ghosts.
System: Intelligence + Rituals = difficulty six (6). It takes one (1) night to cast this ritual and the ward is permanent until the item is destroyed. Ghosts who touch objects warded by this symbol suffer three (3) dice of damage, each and every time they come into contact with it. Furthermore, a ghost who consciously wishes to touch an object so protected must spend a point of will-power to do so. This ritual wards only individual objects; if inscribed on a sword, the eye affects only that weapon, not the scabbard or belt.
