Introduction

When the Tremere of the Camarilla subjected Clan Assamite to their curse, rendering Kindred blood a deadly poison to the Clan of Assassins, not every member of that Clan succumbed. Some broke away from the main body of the Clan, willing to face whatever doom awaited rather than submit to the infidel’s magic. The result was the Assamite antitribu.

These vampires are Cainites in a more direct sense than many Sabbat. They regard Haqim as an abomination, just one of the hated Antediluvians. Instead, they revere Caine, and work to become closer to the Third Mortal. Their method, of course, is to lower their Generation through diablerie.

Beyond that, though, no much differentiates the Angels of Caine from the “mainstream” Assamites. Both are masters of hunting and killing, and both observe strict codes of honor and fierce zeal where their ongoing crusade is concerned. Both grow darker of skin as they grown older and more powerful. And both forms of Assamite believe that in the Final Nights, the truly reverent and devout shall be rewarded, while the weak perish at their fangs.

Overview

The Assamites of the Sabbat, acting on the request of the sect's leaders, severed all direct association to the Assamite clan. The Sabbat Assamites have since made peace with their former clan. Assamite antitribu will not battle non-Sabbat Assamites, and Assamites have never warred against the Sabbat Assamites. This unspoken understanding is at least recognized by Sabbat leaders. The antitribu regard themselves as "true Assamites", while the Sorcerers of Alamut believe that the reason the antitribu are free of the Tremere curse lies in the ruins of Chorazin and has something to do with the Ba'ali.

The Assamite antitribu are the primary assassins of the Sabbat. However, they do not ask for blood from the leaders of the sect. Instead, they ritually slay the eldest of their own clan every 100 years through a special diablerie ceremony. This elder has some of the blood of the Lasombra founder, a Third Generation vampire, running through his veins. The elder exists for a century as the closest Assamite antitribu to Caine himself, ruling under the title Hulul. At the end of the 100-year reign, the next in line drinks the precious vitae from the previous ruler, and so it passes it through history.

With the breaking of the Tremere Curse by Ur-Shulgi, many elders of the antitribu, including the current Hulul, have rejoined the sect to escape the humiliation of submitting to the blood wizards and returned to Alamut and joined the Loyalist forces. Conversely, many young Assamites have fled to the Sabbat in order to escape the harsh laws under the new Eldest.

Al-Azif

Al-Azif is the name the Assamite Sorcerers of the antitribu chose for themselves. As they lack the resources and libraries of Alamut, each Al-Azif practices Assamite Sorcery in the same manner the original defectors of the main Clan used it, focusing on kalif and ecstatic practices to fuel their art. As they were never much to begin with, few regular pack members ever meet an Al-Azif.

Most Al-Azif are a reclusive lot, hoarding their supply of kalif and keeping their allegiance within the Sabbat as wide as possible, to avoid making potential enemies.

Character Creation: Physical Attributes tend to be primary, with some Assamite antitribu favoring Social Attributes to help them get close to their prey. Talents and Skills are equally favored, but Knowledges may help the wise Assamite antitribu in a pinch. Few Angels of Caine cultivate extensive Backgrounds, and instead specialize in an array of Disciplines that heighten their competence. The most accomplished antitribu follow the Path of Caine or Death and the Soul ensuring that they do not have to spend a great deal of effort maintaining their Virtues and Humanity.

Bloodline Disciplines: Celerity, Obfuscate, Quietus

Weaknesses: The Assamite antitribu weakness never changed, while the rest of the Clan shackled with the blood curse of the Tremere. Whenever an Assamite antitribu drinks vampire blood, the player must roll Self-Control or Instincts (difficulty 3 + the number of blood points consumed).

If this roll fails, the character is addicted. Once addicted, the character will indulge in drinking Kindred blood whenever possible. When she is given the opportunity to do so, the player must roll Self-Control or Instincts (difficulty 6). If this roll fails, the character frenzies, attacks the target and drinks as much blood as she can.
