Herbert Northrop was born in 1848 to indigent Irish parents who worked as domestic servants in the household of a family of English gentry. Herbie went to a prestigious millitary school at the cost of his gentile godparents. And attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst for four years before taking his commission.
The next thirthy-five years of Herbie's life was spent on the battlefields of the Empire beginning with the British expedition to Abyssinia (1867–1868) and ended it with the Second Boer War (1899–1902).
Herbie returned home late last year with the hope of a justly earned retirement, but was asked to perform one last service for "King and Country."
Under the guise of a final mission to update the fortifications at St. Mawes and to train Britain's best and brightest in techniques of guerrilla warfare developed during the Second Boer war. In reality
