Kingston has few friends and is a little too serious for nicknames.

Appearance

Originally short, bald, pudgy and myoptic, Kingston was not much to look upon. Now after the Embrace his Fae blood has signigicantly lengthened his bones and given his face a sharp, angular caste that is almost vulpine. It also bleached the color from his skin making him an albino with cognac colored irises and pointed fairy ears. In life a heavy set man, from a sedentary life as opposed to gluttony, Kingston is now simply tall and imposing in his habitual black attire and bowler hat.

History

Kingston Sparks was born the bastard son to an unwed teenage girl given to flights of madness. The small minds of a small English village neither understood nor forgave his mother's sins and the boy child inherited the stain of these failings by the nature of his blood. Born as Kingston was in the middle of the Nineteenth century the situation was a terrible scandal that might have ruined the boys life before it was begun, but for the timely intervention of his maternal grandfather who adopted the boy and brought him to live with him upon a small farm outside of Buntingford, Hertfordshire.

Kingston grew quickly on his yeoman grandfather's farm. Days began at sunrise, there were always chores and then a long walk to school in all seasons, followed by long hours in a one room school house and a long walk home. Kingston never suffered the slings and arrows of local judgement because his grandfather invented a story about his daughter and her husband dying in a carriage accident abroad and he cemented this fiction with a funeral for two in the Buntingford cemetery and hosting a rousing wake at a local inn. The truth was far less pleasant. Kingston's mother was taken to Bethlam Royal Hospital where she would reside until her death.

Kingston's childhood passed like a warm summer day. The death of his grandfather brought that day to a close. Kingston had just turned twenty-one years old and inherited the farm and its attendant lands. Kingston might have become a yeoman farmer himself had he not found his grandfathers papers revealing the nature of his birth and his mother's incarceration in Bedlam. The young man made a fateful decision when he sold his property in Buntingford and moved to London. The "Big Smoke" was a thrill for a country boy fresh off the farm, but Kingston adapted quickly, taking lodgings and finding work initially in labor and then in service to a pawnbroker.

Kingston's first visit to Bedlam was a terrible shock, the Asylum was a rambling series of buildings many in poor condition with slanting walls, uneven floors and a leaky roof. The patients both mild and severe often wandered loose and mixed without restraint while more criminal patients were confined to cells. Kingston's mother was so confined and his first meeting with her would change him forever.
