White Stag Society
History
While the origins of the society are lost to the mists of time it is known that the fellowship of the White Stag was an venerable knightly order formed in the ancient kingdom of the original Barovian homeland. By the time of the Terg Invasion the old chivalric order had become little more than a social club for bored aristocrats of Barovia's medieval era. The invasion of the Tergs changed that as young men of noble blood rushed to join the order in an outburst of heroic patriotism. The invasion not only breathed life into the order, but rejuvenated it as new blood took over the ancient traditions of the warrior brotherhood.
Throughout the invasion the Order of the White Stag led from the vanguard of most military engagements and often served in the role of scouts and advanced guards for armies. The decades long invasion was a time of military and mystical advancement for the order as new magic items were forged for the knights and new magics were developed to combat a vicious and unrelenting enemy. For a few decades after the Tergs were defeated and Barovia was drawn into the mists the order continued in this role. But the influence of Strahd and the absence of anything like organized conflict led to a decline in the popularity of the order.
