Veronika Abel
Title: Madame Mayor
Appearance: Veronika is a statuesque Icelandic beauty with deep azure eyes and hair like spun gold. She dresses very well on a provincial mayor's salary, but uses cosmetics very sparingly. Her choice of jewelry brings out her eyes and hair, so sapphires and gold are preferred as gifts. She wears a faint floral essence reminiscent of fresh honey. Miss Abel currently wears no promise or betrothal rings on either hand, but does wear a Cartier Tank Anglaise watch in pink gold with sapphires, and a matching bracelet with earrings.
Background: Veronika was born in Akureyri in the spring of 1980. Her family emigrated to Iceland in the early nineteenth century and settled in the region around Akureyri. Her father, Róbert studied architecture in Paris and her mother Ragnheiður is a local surgeon who studied medicine in Heidelberg. Veronika was born a beautiful child who seemed to grow more beautiful as time passed. Her parents encouraged her to consider modeling which she began in secondary school. After graduation, she pursued a decade long career in modeling in continental Europe before attending Oxford University from which she obtained a MPP degree (Master of Public Policy). Shortly thereafter, she returned to Akureyri and took a position in the cabinet of Eiríkur Björn Björgvinsson, the previous mayor of the city. In early 2016, she ran against her former employer and won the mayoral race to become the second madame mayor of Akureyri and the youngest person to hold the position of mayor in the history of Northern Iceland.
Personality: Veronika is a private woman, but in such a small city it is difficult to keep one's personal and professional life entirely separate. Clearly, she is a confident young woman, some would even say ambitious. At the moment it is too early to tell, but she may pursue her career in public policy and politics beyond Akureyri and the region of Norðurland Eystra.
Current Events: Recently, several international corporations have approached the mayor about opening up operational divisions in Akureyri. While this bodes well for the economic future of Akureyri, the city council has final say on which corporations they wish to sponsor and what those corporations must do in order to achieve their goals in the Norðurland Eystra. The mayor is still in her political honeymoon period and thus far remains effectively free of the morass of backbiting and favor currying that is the underbelly of the Icelandic political system.
Notes: In mid October of 2016, Veronika ingested some of Eyvindur Njalsson blood and is now one step towards becoming his thrall.
