Vebronus Alexus Torenus
Alex Torens was born Vebronus Alexus Torenus in 440 BC. He was born to a Roman family, his father was one of the Decemviri. As a young man he decided to take up the philosophy of Arculous, which taught math, magic, and art. He traveled abroad and took apprenticeship under the Master Phidias. He came at the end of the great aritists' life, learning from the Master without really understanding all the subtleties of his magic. After a couple of years learning, Torenus chafed under the highly disciplined eye of Phidias. Torenus made no small fact of his disdain for one of the Equestori such as Phidias. In fact in the dark corners of Roman pubs, he worked to convince those of the craft guilds that his Master wasn't that great, and that Torenus could easily do the same magic at any time. When Phidias wouldn't bend his knee to the Roman Magus houses, instead of helping his Master, Torenus gave false witness in order to get his revenge on this jumped up Equestori.
After the death of Phidias, Vebronus began work on new masks. His initial efforts to reproduce the original lost Masks were failures. After a time he grew disgusted and began trying to harness the powers of the elder titans as opposed to that of the current Dei Consenties. Again the first of several masks he made were failures. Vebronus hated the fact that he had not been able to replicate the successes of his teacher. The crafts and Patrons of Rome began to scoff at Torenus, making fun of the high born brat who wasn't as smart as he thought he was. He argued with his friend Gabius Horgen Pertinx, and wound up killing him. It was then that he came to the realization that Phidias had used life-force to power his creations, not just faith in the Gods. The blood of Gabius Pertinax fed the Mask, and the Mask of Hades became powerful, if not evil in the process, for each Mask has it's own personality.
Hubis and cruelty were the hallmarks of his personality, though he was highly regarded by the mages of his time.
