Benesj has been trying to re-stabilize the city of Gabrovo following the havoc caused by the Malkavian Iskra's interference. Rumors have begun flying that Benesj conspired with Iskra's younger childe Basia to free Benesj from his 5 years of service in return for the soul of Basia's sire. What is certain is that Petar, Iskra's elder childe, has fled to his sire's allies claiming that he saw Basia use dark powers to overcome their sire.

A Knight of the Ordo Dracul, Baron Ognyan, approaches Benesj in hopes of gaining the Necromancer's support in taking Pzardzhik (the domain now held by Basia) for his own in payment for the boon he earned helping Milan and Benesj take Gabrovo. Prince Suregethese of Blagoevgrad required that Benesj take part in no more open armed conflicts in return for his support in the legal dispute, so Benesj offered as much sorcerous support as he could, but declined to take part physically. Ognyan withdrew to consider the matter.

Benesj is contacted by Violette, the ruler of the province of Targovishte, about the abduction or murder of her young childe.
