Description: Fear is one of the most powerful tools in the necromancer’s arsenal and curses of fear have long been the purview of necromancy. It is said that premature burial is the most primal and widespread of all human fears. The abnormal fear of being buried alive is called Taphephobia. This ritualized curse inflicts Taphephobia on a single mortal target. Victims of this curse are overcome by this fear and must flee towards open spaces or well lit spaces of safety.
Origin: Benesj the Black
Ingredients: The caster requires a figurine formed of human tallow with a human face that resembles the target, a length of used burial linen and a toy coffin.
Casting: The caster must use a fingernail or knife to sculpt the features of the target. Then he wraps the figurine in used funerary linen and places it in the toy coffin. Finally, the caster whispers to the wax figurine three times of its being buried alive and buries it in a cemetery.
System: Intelligence + Rituals = difficulty four (4). The caster’s successes must be overcome by the victim through an extended courage roll at a difficulty of eight (8) for mortals or six (6) for super-natural creatures; spirits and the undead are immune to the effects of this ritual. This ritual takes five (5) minutes to cast.
Reference: There are a plethora of necromantic curses that evoke fear, this is just one of them.
