Talk:Spreading the Mothers Thorns
Part of my difficulty in rating these rituals is that there is no power level mentioned. If I look at the difficulty of the roll, I would say it's a level one ritual (4 + 1 = 5) for what has been called a "out-of-clan caster", what this means is that the caster doesn't belong to a bloodline with a hereditary use of blood magic like the Tremere, hence the difficulty of four (4) which combines with the level of the ritual in this case one (1) for a total of five (5).
On the other hand, if the caster were an in-clan caster, the roll would start out difficulty three (3) plus the level two (2) for a total difficulty of five (5). The level in this case would be two (2) based on the formula.
As cool as this ritual is, I would say it's probably a level three ritual based on it's effects, area covered and it's closest comparable magical effect, Morgan's Path of Pain and it's level three effects.
So my point here is this, you need to establish a specific level for this ritual and then set it's difficulty based on the above examples.
All in all, I think it's a great example of a ritual with a good introduction and reasonable effects.
However in the system you need to be a little more specific as to area of effect because as written it could work equally well on a broom closet or a ballroom. And usually wards of this nature (and it is a ward) usually either effect a single item or are area based.
I suggest the latter rather than the former, although another comparable ritual could effect individual items or people. This is a good ritual and it would be nice to see some flavor in the casting section. Good work! -- "The Magister 10:56, 24 October 2018 (MDT)"
