- This morning, in the early hours, persons unknown set fire to the the Old Abadjiev Coat Factory. The factory had been closed since 1988 when the communist government could no longer afford to keep it open. Over the years the factory was looted and was often the site of "Raves" - wild, impromptu parties held by local youths. Last year it was declared a local heritage site and unfortunately it had become a place where the homeless could "squat" - use the building as shelter from the elements without paying the city any compensation. According to the Office of the Fire Marshal, the building was subject to arson by parties unknown for reasons unknown.
