Kleptomania is a rare impulse control disorder characterized by an uncontrollable urge to steal items that are not needed for personal use or for their monetary value. Individuals with kleptomania experience a recurrent failure to resist impulses to steal, often driven by a compulsion rather than financial gain or necessity. The behavior is typically preceded by feelings of tension or anticipation and followed by pleasure, gratification, or relief, with subsequent guilt, shame, or remorse.
