Sobriquet: The Plague Doctor

Appearance: Der Plagenarzt always appears dressed in cowled, but threadbare black velvet robes, his or her face is utterly obscured by a well used black leather bird-mask with mirrored glass covered apertures for eyes. The Plague-doctor usually carries an old black leather medical bag, and a fossilized walking stick.

Behavior: The word enigma would seemed to have been coined for Der Plagenarzt, who doesn't speak except in whispers and whose comings and goings are as ephemeral as the passage of rumor.

History: Like sin-eaters, plague-doctors are a thing of the past and none have been seen in Berlin since the turn of the nineteenth century. Der Plagenarzt is unique among the community of hedge wizards as he or she seems to work the streets and primarily contracts with the homeless. About the Plague Doctor's past, virtually nothing is known, but during the short time since the Doctor's appearance, a number of Berlin's most ill and dying poor seem to have been miraculously healed of a variety of maladies. Der Plagenarzt refuses all material payments, demanding unspecified favors, reinforced by supernatural means, for those seeking healing beyond the abilities of ordinary physicians and the Plague Doctor has amassed such influence on the dirty streets of Berlin's worst ghettos that both the Gestapo and various representatives of Berlin's numerous occult societies have begun a hunt for him.

Recent Events: Rumors of Der Plagenarzt began shortly after Adolf Hitler's ascension to the chancellorship and the public are subject to sweeping rumors of an alliance with Nazis or against them a variety of public enemies.
