David Bertrand
- Paris -P- The Gangrel History of Paris -P- Gangrel
Sobriquet: David
Appearance: David is a mature man, tall and wearing clothing with aristocratic style. His etiquette is flawless to the common people, and he has this aura of animal magnetism that seems to repulse with slight fear and attract with fascination people who meet him (and charms some women who find themselves irresistibly attracted to the mysterious man.
He has large twin locks of white hair that continues down to the long ponytail he always wears. The same white hair appear even in animal form, and makes him recognizable to everyone with some supernatural background and wits. He has long fingers that seems to have unsettling resemblances with claws, with his long nails. He has a lot of body hair, too, on his torso, or the forearms. The side-whiskers seems to be a consequences of his successive Frenzies, and mastering of the Protean Discipline.
Behavior: He is a City Gangrel: The City is his hunting ground, and he only hunts the highest vintages: He choose his chalices in the jet set and seduces them. He has style, and his feral smile adds to his magnetism. He is a predator in the middle of his prey, and his somewhat superior air does let no one untouched: Some hate or dislike him, most are awed and some even feel attracted by his strange charisma.
He judges the Kindred on two things:
Their personal power and efficiency. Their Humanity.
As he is from the Sabbat, he learned to admire those who fought to keep their Humanity, even if he follows a different Path of Enlightenment. To be in the bad end of his judgement and irritate him can lead to aggravated damage to one's health... Or Final Death.
He is a man of Esprit, but few like to challenge him this way, as his answers always have some kind of threat in it. But no one takes it too bad: After all, he is a Gangrel, and so, primitive by Toreador standards...
History: David was born in the Canada, and soon became hunter, married and had one child. He would have had more, if the Sabbat City Gangrel had not decided to embrace him, despite the apparent love of David for the wilderness. He was brainwashed by the Sabbat Rituals, but something of him survived, and awakened when he saw the casualties of the war between the Sabbat and the local Lupines: He add been attacked by a monstrous Lupine, and when he saw the silver-bullet riddled body transforming back to its human form, he discovered his own wife had decided to end his miserable life, while, all the while, Christopher was laughing at the irony.
Caught between the forced teachings of his Sire, and the remains of his Humanity, he took the only way possible: He became a loner, and started to avoid the company of his pack, even if the Vinculum called him back to the communal haven.
Christopher started to have second thoughts: David had survived and showed himself a great warrior. But his love of wilderness was of no use for the City Gangrel Bloodline, and started wondering if David should not be killed. He prepared a War party where he intrigued to work with David's pack, to Diablerize some Brujah Elder in Chicago. Then, when he was alone with his Childe, he attacked him. But David was aware of the danger of the situation because of his Auspex Discipline, and turned out to be a greater warrior than Christopher thought... And when he used the gazoline on both of them, Christopher discovered David had indeed mastered somewhat the Fortitude Discipline, despite the fact that he, christopher, had always failed to learn it!
Thinking all the pack wanted to kill him because his sympathies for mortals have been discovered, he betrayed them to the powerful Brujah (who would anyway probably have destroyed them, as he was more powerful than they thought, thanks to Christopher's failed intelligence). The elder Brujah destroyed the pack. Somewhere at the end of the fight Christopher fled, and the Brujah let David go after recognizing he as someone who only wanted to be free from the Sabbat. David arrived in Paris, in 1955, believing he would live here protected from Sabbat investigations.
He met Alexis and accepted to join his sect, the Veilleurs. He reached the level of Chevalier (Knight) within the Sect. He uses his DST Rank only when asked: He does not like to uses others resources, and even less when it is an organization that could well discover his haven...
He Sired Juan, but not knowing how to teach him, he simply abandoned him. Strangely, Juan inherited his capacity to eat solid food. One year after, he was seduced by Catherine's abilities and embraced her without authorization. This time, he wanted to be there to teach her. She has been a great student.
Lately, he was attacked by a Glass Walker Garou female who wanted to kill him after he was caught drinking from one of her friends. Again, he turned to be a greater fighter than thought, as he succeeded in immobilizing her. His instincts called him to end the life of the monster, but his conscience reminded him of his wife. His last words to her was I'm not your enemy..., and then, he disappeared. Since them, the female Garou, Sylvie, tried to find him again, and only succeeded once, where their conversation was interrupted by the coming of a pack of lupines. She saved him by hiding him, and then, went away with the pack to lead them away from him. They had not succeeding in meeting again, but each try to, even if they don't really know why...
