Críochcheol - the red sword of the prince
[[]]
Appearance: Críochcheol is a leaf shaped blade of steel crafted in the style of the late Bronze Age swords commonly found throughout the North-Western region of Europe, particularly in the British Isles. The weapon is most similar to those found in conjunction with the Nebra Sky Disk and is marked with a unique variant of the Ogham script utilized as a stylistic blood groove. The metal of the blade has an unusual crimson tint that under modern lighting conditions leads observers to the impression the metal was chemically enhanced for coloration, but in near dark conditions the blade is seen to luminess a crimson light of the same intensity as diffuse moonlight.
Background: The blade was forged and crafted on the month leading up to the Second Grand Lunar Eclipse of the Common Era which took place on the winter solstice of year 2010; like other enchanted devices crafted during this rare mystical event, Críochcheol bears a number of unique powers and is among those items described as Cainite Artifacts.
Powers: In addition to its known power as a blood magic talisman, the blade also possesses the ability to reflect things as they actually are and to peirce illusions of all kinds. What other eldrich powers the blade might have are unknown, but artifacts of this kind are known to manifest mutiple abilities and powers, as ascribed by Cainite mythology.
