This ritual is a testament to the chief god of the sea Manannan Mac Lir (May-nah-naun) and the goddess of weather and storms Cailleach Bheur. Manannan argued with Caileach that all of her power came from the sea and that without him she would be powerless. She replied that while yes her storms started at sea and started with his power, without her his oceans would be devoid of life, that she moves the oceans and gives life to the mountains and fields. Caileach invited Manannan to ask the creatures and plants of the land to tell him of her power. After talking to the mountains, the rivers and all the animals in the forest he came back to her defeated, although they all feared her they said without her none of them would survive. As a reward Cailleach told Manannan that he could borrow some of her power by getting some proof from all those he talked to and binding them together. By taking the power from a night or time of power, you can infuse a natural object with the power of the storm. This does not create the storm but lends you a Manannan’s control of the storm and Calleach’s respect for the Season

System: Roll Int + Rituals as normal. The ritual takes a minimum of 4 hours and imbues an object as a focus. This object must be made of all-natural components from the area in which the ritual is performed, which are gathered over the course of the casting. The creation of this focus item requires a craft roll, difficulty 6, and you must get at least 5 successes. The crafting of the focus may be an extended roll; each roll after the first extends the casting of the ritual by 1 hour. A botch on any of these rolls will cause the ritual to fail. This focus item remains dormant until activated. Once activated, the item remains whole until your control of the storm fades, at which time it dissolves back into its components, and cannot be used again.

Once this ritual is activated, the storm will maintain itself at its current power level until the ritual expires, and the caster may choose to make general changes (such as increasing or decreasing the temperature or amount of precipitation or wind across the entire storm) at will for the duration. The caster may control specific effects of the storm for a number of actions equal to 10 times the successes on the ritual casting. Possible effects are defined as any power of any path of weather magic the caster possesses, cast with 5 successes, although the effect must be something reasonable in the current storm. The number of effects possible per round is limited by the caster’s Wits rating, and using an effect is a free action. Any ongoing localized effect (a wind tunnel, strong pelting rain on only one building) will require an expenditure for each round it is in effect. Your control of the storm fades when either all of these effects have been used, or when the caster falls asleep, whichever happens first.


What happens if someone else is using weather magic to contest your control of the storm? -Jamie

The way we have played it the 2 times I have used the spell, I have 5 success on controlling the storm for anything that is not targeted(ie combat) if I wanted more success I could use one of my charges to get an addition 5 successes. -Brian
