Conrad Schrek
Appearance: At 5'10" tall, Conrad is a middle aged, average looking guy. Already slightly pale from his time in prison, being undead just made it permanent. Conrad has big hands, and is missing his right pinky.
Behavior: Conrad is pleasant. He keeps his face blank most of the time. He is known to speak in a slightly stilted fashion.
History: Conrad was born in Germany, 1823. He grew up as a aristocrat during under the reign of King Ludwig of Bavaria. He was a young man coming into his own in 1844 when the beer riots shook the country. Enthralled by the energy and passion shown by the common workers, Conrad joined them. As the riots were getting ramped up on the evening of the May 5, 1844, Conrad met a very charismatic young man who was whipping the crowds into a frenzy. His name was Rochus Faeber. Conrad followed him as they threw rocks at the police, and learned the fine art of stomping an officer they caught alone. After spending the whole night learning of revolution the betterment of the people, Conrad was embraced by this very intoxicating young man.
When he awoke the next night Conrad was deeply saddened to hear that a settlement had been made, and the revolution had died on the vine. Conrad and Rochus knocked around Europe before coming back to Germany with the spawning of the March Revolution in 1848. The "March Revolution" in the German states took place in the south and the west of Germany, with large popular assemblies and mass demonstrations. Led by well-educated students and intellectuals, they demanded German national unity, freedom of the press, and freedom of assembly. The uprisings were not well coordinated, but had in common a rejection of traditional, autocratic political structures in the 39 independent states of the German Confederation. The middle-class and working-class components of the Revolution split, and in the end, the conservative aristocracy defeated it, forcing many liberals into exile. Rochus and Conrad were two of those, leaving a few steps ahead of the Ventrue who had called for their blood.
Rochus led Conrad to Poland, where they hid from the Ventrue of Berlin. Agitating for reform, the two vampires eventually became par to the January Uprising in 1863. The January Uprising was an uprising in the former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (present-day Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Latvia, parts of Ukraine, and western Russia) against the Russian Empire. It began on 22 January 1863 and lasted until the last insurgents were captured in 1864.
The uprising began as a spontaneous protest by young Poles against conscription into the Imperial Russian Army. It was soon joined by high-ranking Polish-Lithuanian officers and various politicians. The insurrectionists, severely outnumbered and lacking serious outside support, were forced to resort to guerrilla warfare tactics.
Public executions and deportations to Siberia led many Poles to abandon armed struggle and turn instead to the idea of "organic work": economic and cultural self-improvement. Toward the end of the movement Rochus was captured by the Russian Ventrue Velarian Makari Petrov. Velarian staked the Brujah out to the sun while Conrad ran deeper into Russia, seeking to be lost among the masses of St. Petersburg.
Conrad stayed there, but again agitating for change. Having met other activist Brujah in city, he was one of those who helped make the October Revolution happen. Happy at last among a successful revolution, Conrad had come into his own. Regarded as a worthy Comrade, Conrad rose to some prominence among the Brujah controlled government. He worked diligently under the Party Elite of Mother Russia. World War II saw the need for spies among the Germans, and having grown tired of the staidness of Communism, Conrad volunteered. He moved among his German brethren smoothly, but in a shocked way, amazed at the change in his homeland. Old enemies had forgotten him it seemed, and Conrad enjoyed knocking about his former homeland. As things turned darker for the Germans, and it became evident that Germany would lose to the Allies, with aid from his Russian Brujah he escaped on a plain going to Africa. From Africa he jaunted across and into Asia as the War to End All Wars ended.
Staying in Calcutta for a time Conrad became aware of the Kuie-jin, and the existence of the Raktasadhu. The German vampire tried to stay out of the way, slowly getting a grasp on things. He periodically sent reports back to the Brujah of Russia, keeping them abreast of what he was learning. Inda was proving a comforting thing to this foreigner, feeding was plentiful, and he gradually became an envoy to the European vampires coming here, bridging the gap between the two groups. Conrad settled into comfort of routine, becoming an elder.
In 1975 a message reached him that change was coming to Melbourne, Australia. His friends in Russia would very much like an eye kept on things, to see if perhaps a partnership could be made. Once more Conrad picked up and moved. Landing in Melbourne, Conrad realized he was once again in a vibrant, European based community. Meeting "Squizzy" Taylor the two became friends, and once again Conrad was in the midst of revolution. When "Squizzy" Taylor took control of the city in 1983, Conrad was at his right hand. The knowledgeable elder had become and Idealist. Since that time Conrad has sunk his fangs into the police force, and controls what they do, using them as an army for the Prince.
Recent Events: Conrad has had to cover up some suspicious killings in Port Phillip. He is searching for who might be being messy.
