Candle of Erebus
Description: This ritual measures the darkest part of the soul, the Shadow. By contrasting a subject’s negative spirit the necromancer can gain a rough measure of the soul’s positive side. Essentially, with this ritual the necromancer can measure a subject’s Path of Enlightenment rating.
Origin: Benesj the Black
Ingredients: A black candle made of human tallow, crematorium ashes and some sulfur, a standard match will do.
Casting: The necromancer must chant an invocation in Greek to Erebus, the god of darkness and shadow asking for a revelation of a specific individual’s inner darkness. When a specified target enters the light of the candle, his shadow grows or shrinks based on its relative strength. By comparing the target’s shadow to his own, the necromancer can get a rough estimate of that individual’s path of enlightenment rating.
System: Intelligence + Rituals = 4. A pass / fail ritual that determines how a given subject’s path of enlightenment rating compares to the casters rating in enlightenment.
Reference: I have found no known parallels in White Wolf canon.
