Description: Central to the spell of the Light of Hekate's Torch is the goddess herself. In ancient Greek religion and mythology, Hekátē holds influence over crossroads, entrance ways, light, magic, witchcraft, herbs and poisonous plants, ghosts, necromancy and sorcery. She is most often displayed in art bearing a pair of torches or a key, and in later periods she is depicted in full triple-goddess form. This working uses the key element of fire to illuminate magical emanations within line of sight. All such mystical energies, whether residual or active glitter to the eyes of the caster. Not only does each form of magic have a color associate with it, but sometimes the purpose of the effect or ritual can be gleaned from the shimmering patterns revealed by the Light of Hekate's Torch. Despite the name, the spell can be cast with any size of flame, from something as small as a candle up to a burning building and everything in between.

Origin: Ostanes

Instruments: blood for Prime

Casting: The caster begins the effect by softly chanting a hymn of praise to Hekate in Greek and requesting her aid in illuminating the unseen essence of magic. Thereafter he gestures somatically, IE with his hands, creating the classical elemental symbols of quintessence (a circle), air (a equilateral triangle pointed upwards with a horizontal line through it), and finally fire (a equilateral triangle pointed upwards). While forming the elemental hand gestures, the magician breaths through them and upon the fire bearing item which represents the torch of Hekate. Lastly, the caster spreads wide his hands, thus widening his mystical vision and concluding the casting. At all times, the caster should be able to see the symbolic torch regardless of what it is, through his paired hands.

System: Roll Arete at a difficulty of four (4). The effect is entirely coincidental as no one else can see the mystical residue or active energies. Technically, with a successful performance roll, the difficulty can drop to three (3) and it remains coincidental even before a live audience.

Sphere: (Prime •)

Paradox: Not unless you botch.

Inspiration: Sense the Mystical a level one thaumaturgy ritual and Magical Sense a level one effect of Prime.
