The traditional rulerships according to Josephus are as follows
Aries (Mars) = Carnelian
Taurus (Venus) = Peridot
Gemini (Mercury) = Emerald
Cancer (Moon) = Ruby
Leo (Sun) = Lapis-lazuli
Virgo (Mercury) = Onyx
Libra (Venus) = Sapphire
Scorpio (Mars) = Agate
Sagittarius (Jupiter) = Amethyst
Capricorn (Saturn) = Topaz
Aquarius (Saturn) = Beryl
Pisces (Jupiter) = Jasper



Agate: Agate is the birthstone of Taurus (Bull): April 20 - May 20. Agate guards against danger.
Alexandrite: Aquamarine along with bloodstone are birthstones of Pisces (Fish): Feb. 19 - March 20. Alexandrite along with pearls and moonstone are birthstones of Gemini (Twins): May 21 - June 21. Alexandrite is a stone of good omen.
Amber: Amber brings good luck. It is associated with time, cycles and longevity.
Amethyst: Curing and preventing intoxication.
Aquamarine: It provides courage and strengthens the will. Aquamarine protects against the wiles of the devil. Others say that the Aquamarine is an excellent stone for meditation.
Citrine: Citrine is said to help one connect with Spirit. Citrine along with topaz are birthstones of Scorpius (Scorpion): Oct. 24 - Nov. 21 .
Emerald: Miraculous healing properties.
Hecatolite: Moonstone. The Romans admired moonstone, as they believed it was born from solidified rays of the Moon. Both the Romans and Greeks associated moonstone with their lunar deities.
Jacinth (Zircon): A talisman against tempests.
Peridot: Power over sleep and dreams.
