Origin of the name

It takes its name from the Sainte-Périne institution, which became Sainte-Périne hospital, which borders it, and whose main entrance is at 17 rue Chardon-Lagache1.

History

From 1109 to the Revolution, the park was part of an estate belonging to the Sainte-Geneviève abbey, serving as a rural residence for the monks2. The property was then delimited by the Seine and the current boulevard Exelmans and rues Boileau, d'Auteuil and Wilhem1.

Following the dismantling of the site, sold as national property during the Revolution by the district of Saint-Denis, then given over to cows and horses, several owners followed one after the other before the estate was divided up and considerably reduced. It finally fell to the daughters of the Countess of Aubusson, who ceded it to the Assistance publique in 1858, the date on which the Sainte-Périne de Chaillot institution was established there2. Work carried out by Ponthieu from 1860 led to the construction of new buildings for this charitable organization, which originally housed a retirement home, the entrance to which is located at 17 rue Chardon-Lagache1.
