History: Alexander Gericault was a French Nephandus who infiltrated the Traditions.

Gericault was sent to spy on Senex and Mercedes Gonzaga de Ortiz, to identify ways to manipulate them and direct them against the Physician, a high-ranking member of the Order of Reason. They never asked about his background, assuming he was an Ecstatic or possibly a Dreamspeaker, given his furious hatred of the Technocracy.
In 1887, a few months before they took down the Physician, Gericault told Mercy that he was in love with her.
In 1889, he confessed to her that he was a Nephandus when Senex proposed taking down a Labyrinth based in London; he asked Mercy to leave the Euthanatoi and fight the Order of Reason at his side.[1] By 1896, Mercy willingly entered a Caul out of love for Gericault.
After Mercy's death, Gericault regretted that he didn't find her reincarnation before Senex did. He slipped into Senex's chantry on Cerberus and spoke to Amanda, revealing to her the circumstances of Mercy's death and attempting to weaken the memory block Senex had put into place. He assumed that Mercy had died hating Senex, and that once Amanda remembered, she would turn against him.
