History: Achard I, was born the bastard son of Tancred de Hauteville in 997. Tancred was seventeen years old when he fathered Achard on a peasant girl from the village of Coutances in the Cotentin. His father the rightful lord de Hauteville refused to acknowledge the bastard and sent him away to be raised in monastery.
