History
Varinia Libidine began life as a virtuous daughter of a aristocratic Roman family. When she entered adolescence she was given to the temple of Vesta to serve as one of that goddesses' virgin priestess for life. The position of Vestal Virgin conveyed great prestige both upon the individual and the family from which she sprang and in Roman society offered a woman a position of great authority in an otherwise male dominated society.
Regrettably Varinia's youthful libido was more powerful that her vows of chastity and she succumb to desire. For years she managed to keep her infidelities a secret, but once exposed Varinia was expelled not only from her order but from her family for the shame she brought to both. For her most natural of instincts Varinia found herself cast-out to the streets as a common whore, but there was nothing common about her and in a relatively short time she became a infamous and wealthy courtesan.
Varinia's story might have stopped there had she learned from her mistakes, but instead she tried to capitalize upon her notoriety when she seduced a priestess of Venus. The affair itself was tempestuous and ultimately led to the priestess' suicide. This alone was bad enough, but Varinia tempted the fates when she publicly defamed the goddess of love and beauty as less sexually capable than herself.
The goddess's response was as poetic as it was cruel. Each time Varinia engaged in the sex act she would turn into a she-wolf and tear her latest lover to pieces. This divine curse not only denied Varinia sexual satisfaction it also effectively ended her career and life. As word of her affliction spread she found no refuge in sacred precincts or on the streets of Rome until the temple of Morpheus took her in and allowed her to dream of her former greatness.
