Appearance: An iron gladius in the traditional Roman style. Its blade is faintly etched with arcane runes.
Background: The Sword of Mars was sacred to the Cult of Mithras during the heyday of the Roman Empire. It was given to a promising initiate for the period of one year, before that initiate was expected to pass it onto another who would see action on the frontiers of the empire.
Powers: The Sword becomes whatever material will inflict aggravated damage on its target. It becomes silver when facing lupines, cold iron when facing Fey, it is sheathed in fire or the bale-fire of the underworld when in the presence of hostile vampires or wraiths. Presumably, it will take on other forms when faced with rarer supernatural beings. It does not seem to become any more vulnerable to damage when it takes on a brittle or malleable form.
Notes: In the 3rd century CE, This sword was given to Jamie's host, Julius Vallerius, when he was initiated into the cult of Mithras. He used it, and left it in the hands of Julius when he departed that time.
