MONSTRI VOLUMEN ~MV~ Wolfsheim

Werwolfen leader Ulrich Schwarzenegger.jpg

Quote: “Do your... parents know you’re here? Do they seriously expect to see you again?”

Appearance: Ulrich is a giant of a man, with gray hair and a matching beard, typically dressed in the finest linen smock with decorative bead-work, leather vest and wolf-skin cloak kept closed with a gold wolf's head brooch with garnet eyes. Although he is nearly 150 years old, he could pass for a man in his fifties. In his hybrid form, he stands over eight feet tall and is covered with the dark red fur associated with European wolves.

Behavior: Of course, for all his courtly manners and noblesse oblige, Ulrich is first and foremost a werewolf and he is not above getting his claws dirty. Ulrich frequently leads werewolf packs consisting of his own family members against the most powerful Avatars. Younger Avatars fare even worse. Ulrich often arranges for captured Avatars to be transported to his fortification in the northern reaches of Germania, stripped of their Dominions and then released into the Teutoburg Forest for Ulrich and his kin to hunt down and kill.

History: Ulrich Schwarzenegger, also known as the Wolf of the Teutoburg Forest, is a Germanic werewolf and a powerful leader among those werewolves who serve the Titans. Ulrich is actually a descendant of a werewolf clan that has existed since the time when the Aesir walked openly in the World. Descended from the original Kved-Ulf, the progenitor of all werewolves, Ulrich’s ancestors have served as a Titan-worshiping cult for centuries. Yet within each generation, only the most intelligent and cunning heirs of the clan received the "Bite of Fenris,” a bite from an elder clan-member that transforms the recipient into a werewolf. Ulrich himself received the "bite" during the third and final Punic War. In the time since, he has risen to become the patriarch of the entire clan.

The Schwarzenegger Clan is much more than mere Titan cult, over the last century, under Ulrich's patronage the clan has gained considerable influence over the rulers of the Germanic tribes including Arminius. Clan Schwarzenegger are a clan of skilled smiths, especially weapon-smiths and have been working overtime this last twenty years to arm the Germanic tribes for a secret war against the Roman Legions. The secret war-plan was the culmination of Ulrich's goal to acquire enough power and influence to set himself up as a true king. During the Battle of Teutoburg Forest, Ulrich took the lion's share of Roman captives to sacrifice to his Titanic masters. In return, they have conveyed upon him the ability to steal divine powers from captured Avatars.

The looting of Roman corpses has provided the chieftain of Clan Schwarzenegger with the wealth he needs to set up his own private kingdom. There are just three things that stand between Ulrich and immortality. The first was the Roman Empire, but with the advent of the Battle of Teutoburg Forest the power of the legions are broken and Ulrich has pushed Arminius and the other chieftains to pursue further attacks upon Roman garrisons all along the borderlands. The second are the Germanic chieftains themselves, ever a factious bunch, their feuds -- petty power squabbles and paranoia have allowed Ulrich to begin turning them against Arminius as a distraction. Lastly and most importantly, Der Koenig Puck, a fae-demigod and his goblin army will never stand for Ulrich's deification and dominance over Teutoburg Forest. This last problem is the most difficult because Der Koenig Puck lies beyond the reach of Ulrich or his werewolves in an Otherworld realm called Bellhollow. As long as Der Koenig Puck refuses to battle Ulrich on this plane he can continue to wage an endless war against the werewolves and Ulrich is beginning to run out of time.

The last twenty years have resulted in a stalemate between Ulrich's werewolves and Der Koenig Puck's goblins, central to this stale mate is the local rite of Kindernacht. Always in the autumn, the goblins would collect a tax of goods, trinkets and sweets from the villagers. Occasionally Der Koenig Puck, dissatisfied by a particularly dismal set of Kindernacht offerings would reap a mortal child or two, presumably to serve as slaves in the realm of Bellhollow. The arrival of Ulrich and the werewolves interrupted this ancient arrangement, but it wasn't until recently that Ulrich came to understand why the goblin-king would bother to struggle with the werewolves over the village of Wolfsheim in the first place. Ulrich now knows that Der Koenig Puck upon occasion replaces problem goblins within his otherworldly kingdom with new goblins transmogrified from the mortal children of Wolfsheim. How he accomplishes this Ulrich does not know, but this secret has now pushed the twenty year cold war into a night-to-night battle for the village and its resources.

Until Ulrich can defeat Der Koenig Puck in direct combat within Teutoburg Forest or find a way to invade Bellhollow the war between his werewolves and the goblins will only get worse. The goblins for their part have a gift for killing Ulrich's clansmen and so he has turned to giving the Bite of Fenris to the older children of Wolfsheim as recruits to replace his own losses. But Ulrich knows this state of affairs can only last so long before he faces his own mortality and with no new strategy, weapon or magic to change the balance of power the war grinds onward.

Nature: Autocrat. This monster uses his immense influence and cunning to plot and plan the total defeat of the Gods for his Titan masters.
