Background: Named for the "Butcher of Sofia" - Andon Markov. Markov was a nineteenth century butcher in Sofia. In 1876, the Bulgarian police stumbled upon a case so horrific that had it become public knowledge, it would have put "Jack the Ripper" to shame.
