"When the streets start to have the names of gemstones, you know you're getting towards the Hole." -- Local Saying.
Description
Something of a forgotten neighborhood existing in the doldrums betwixt Brooklyn and Queens. The area has no sewer system, so the streets and lots are often flooded. Many buildings are boarded up and the area seems to suffer from a plague of illegal dumping. It is a low-lying area, with a ground level that is 10 meters lower than the surrounding area. It has been described as a "lost neighborhood", and as resembling a border town from the Wild West. Nearby neighborhoods include East New York, Lindenwood, Howard Beach and Ozone Park.
