Opening Comments -- The Why: The problem is that the Sabbat, which is a aggressive and militant vampiric group is bent on conquering all of the British Isles as they have London. And of course, we do not want to spend all our time fighting them, as we have other objectives of our own. Do we not?

The What: What is the "Tolkien Stratagem"? A reasonable question. The stratagem is a two fold plan to defend Camarilla controlled Scotland from the Sabbat. It is broken into two parts. The first part is Operation Aragorn which refers to a heroic character from Tolkien's middle-earth. He was the last King of Gondor and had elected to live the selfless life of a Ranger of the North. Not to get too tangled up in the mythology of Tolkien, but it is to the idea of the rangers that Operation Aragorn refers. The idea is to train an elite company of Kindred rangers via the Scottish Skirmish School to act as a rapid response and intelligence network against Sabbat forces in Scotland and the North of England.

The second part of the "Tolkien Stratagem" is Operation Gondor. In brief, Gondor was the last Kingdom of men in Middle-Earth. Operation Gondor is a plan to use the natural and sparsely populated terrain of southern Scotland and northern England as a defensive barrier against Sabbat forces and deploy listening posts throughout the area in order to be able to detect Sabbat incursions into the area.

Operation Aragorn and Operation Gondor work together to defend Scotland and northern England from the Sabbat. Kindred rangers can act as scouts and messengers to detect and defeat the Sabbat before it become a serious threat to the northern Camarilla. What is more, Operation Gondor utilizes the sparsely populated region of northern England and southern Scotland against the Sabbat by triggering local lupine groups as unwitting guard-dogs. If the local lupines flip-out, the rangers send a preliminary message to all local Camarilla enclaves informing them of potential Sabbat incursion and then investigate the incident. Theoretically, it might even be possible, eventually, to broker a deal with the lupines of the area to work together with the rangers to a limited degree.
