11th Arrondissment

The Saint-Ambroise district is one of the four districts of the 11th arrondissement of Paris, it is surrounded by the La Roquette and the Folie Méricourt districts. It is also close to the Marais district. The Saint-Ambroise district runs along the Rue Oberkampf and ends at the Père-Lachaise cemetery.

History

The Saint-Ambroise district takes its name from Sainte-Ambroise Church, a historical attraction in the district, which itself takes its name from Ambrose of Milan (Ambroise de Milan). It is the 42nd administrative district of Paris.

:* Bataclan: located on Boulevard Voltaire, the theatre was originally called “Le Grand Café Chinois – Théâtre Ba-ta-clan”. A prestigious Parisian entertainment venue since the 1860s, its Chinese-inspired architecture makes it a monument that will delight architecture and theatre lovers.

  • Square Maurice-Gardette: in the heart of the Saint-Ambroise district, the square Maurice-Gardette offers more than 9000 m² of calm and greenery. With its bandstand dating from 1899 and its statues, it is one of the 490 parks and gardens of the city of Paris.
  • Jardins du Marais: at the heart of the Hotel Les Jardins du Marais is sited the largest private gardens in Paris. 1500 m² of gardens where you can enjoy the restaurant Les Terrasses de L’Hôtel.
