Flight
This is the only "discipline" that the proto-Gargoyles created by Clan Tremere before they stabilized as a clan could buy with experience. The rules presented here apply to winged vampires (primarily Gargoyles) who purchase Visceratika as well. Wingspan increases with each level of Flight.
While Gargoyle flight is magical in its ultimate nature, (no amount of flapping will keep a stone statue aloft), they fly like birds, flapping their wings and responding to wind currents as appropriate, rather than the slow, steady flight provided by Movement of the Mind, or something like modern aircraft.
Level | Effect |
1 | Glide; the Gargoyle may fall from nearly any distance without harm. winds strongly influence the character's landing spot and her Dodge pool drops by three dice while flying. The character can travel roughly 15 miles per hour (40 yeards per turn) over short distances. Carrying more than 20 pounds turns the glide into a plummet. |
2 | The Gargoyle can fly with a running (or falling) takeoff and carry up to 20 points without danger. She can travel roughly 30 miles per hour (80 yards per turn) over distances, but does not have much maneuverability. A Dexterity + Athletics roll (difficulty 8) is required for any abrupt maneuver, and Dodge pools decrease by two dice while flying. |
3 | The Gargoyle may take to the air at will if she isn't carrying anything, and carry 50 pounds after a running takeoff if her Strength allows her to do so. she can travel roughly 45 miles per hour (0 yards per turn). Her maneuverability improves somewhat (Athletics difficulty drops to 5 to maneuver), and her full Dodge pool is available while flying. |
4 | The Gargoyle can carry up to 100 points while flying, but still needs a running start if she carries more than 50 pounds. she can travel 60 miles per hour (160 yards per turn), and can maneuver as easily as if she were on the ground. her full Dodge pool is available while flying. |
5 | The character can lift up to 200 pounds, and take directly to the air while carrying half that much. Her maximum flight speed is 75 miles per hour (200 yards per turn). Her full Dodge pool is available while flying. |
Every dot in Flight (or Visceratika) adds 100 pounds and 20 mph to the Gargoyle's maximums. Celerity cannot be used to enhance flight speed. Flight is not magical, per se, despite its origin in Movement of the Mind. Dark Ages Gargoyles don't think of it as a discipline at all: Just part and parcel to their maturation as Gargoyles.
