History
Mortal servants of the Tremere Councillor Meerlinda arrived in Britain with the forces of William the Conqueror. Within the next decades, her vampiric envoys made contact with the Triumvirate, making arrangements to locate a Chantry in the far south of the island. My the time the councilor arrived, Mithras had re-established his hegemony over the island, and a clan of upstart diablerists were not welcome. In the mid-12th century, Mithras' agents destroyed the clan's attempt to build a powerful fortification. Instead, the clan spread out, fortifying several locations around the southern English coast, with a French Toreador, Melusine d’Anjou claiming hegemony over the province of Winchester.
Eventually the support of the Tremere was not enough before the might of Mithras's legions, and Prince Melusine was forced to swear allegiance as the Baron of Winchester. As the centuries passed, Meerlinda left the isles for the New World, leaving her progeny John Dee to take her place in the eternal sparring between Clan Tremere and Mithras's heirs. The fortunes of the Tremere have improved somewhat, but Winchester has remained an also-ran in the competition between England's provinces.
