Kaitlin's Spell Book

Creates a 30’ field around the wear where no shadow can enter, or be created. This effect is only when worn and in plain view. Note that wearing the object gives anyone looking for the person a +2 on all rolls to see the person due to the glow.

System:Caster needs to create an object out of pure solid silver. You would need at least 4 successes on a craft roll Dif 8 to create a piece good enough to house the magic. The cast then needs to Soak the object for a week in water that has never seen the light of day, and then a week in full sun. Once this is done she then needs to cast the ritual on the night of the full moon. Once created the item is permanent until used. It will glow from its own inner light, so it is hard to hide the fact that it is magic. However, can only work on a level equal or less than the number of successes gained on the ritual. For each level of Obtinabration nullified the object will loose a success. (note that one person is considered only once). If all the abyssal shadows are banished, and the object still has charges, it continues to glow, and will automatically nullify any Obtenebration that tries to manifest inside the 30' field. It will nullify the successes gained same as above, until spent. Once spent it stops glowing, and the silver is tarnished throughout. It will need to be melted down, as no amount of polishing will remove the tarnish.

I have no idea what you mean by "(note that one person is considered only once)."
I was under the impression that this ritual removed successes from attempts to use Obtenebration, not levels of Obtenebration.
Lastly, I was under the impression that the object must be used actively - as a mental action.

Upon consideration, I'm comparing this one to Pavis of Foul Presence. Pavis is better in a couple of ways: it is one level lower, and automatically reflects (more powerful than stops) uses of Presence. However, it only lasts until the end of the night. Banish is more powerful in two respects: It affects an area rather than just a person, and it lasts until used up, rather than one night.

Thus, I suggest this: Create a !specific! item - silver broach, ring, necklace, belt buckle, etc - something that can be worn. The ritual is active while it is worn openly and glowing. While active, it negates levels of Obtenebration as suggested in the above write-up. The shadows invoked by Obtenebration must physically touch the wearer of the broach: 30 feet is far too huge an area, but diving into a cloud of darkness or grappling a tendril will automatically cause it to disappear. For the purposes of Arms of Ahriman, only tentacles that touch the wearer will be destroyed, but any that come from the same invocation only cost total 3 charges (for level 3 Obtenebration). The broach can be taken from a light-tight container (pouch, box, pocket, etc) and worn, then removed and put away (deactivating it), then re-worn with all remaining charges intact.
