Introduction: When we think of darkness many images come to mind: an unlit room, the seeming emptiness of a subterranean cavern, or nightfall. All of these things are darkness, but they are not elemental darkness which is something altogether different. Elemental darkness isn't just an exotic substance, it isn't just dark matter or even dark energy, its alive - living darkness. Neophytes in its manipulation can do little more than manipulate shadows. Those more experienced with the manipulation of elemental darkness can snuff candles and torches of their flames or strangle mortals without so much as touching them. The permutations are almost limitless, but masters in the dark element can change themselves or others into living darkness and back again or create solid objects from the stuff of darkness. Legendary practitioners can step across distances of a few feet or to other worlds, they can animate a person's shadow or reanimate the dead after a fashion or even blot out the sun for a time. Nothing is impossible and no secret is truly safe from those who can speak with the darkness itself.
