Once upon a time, the Abbot family was the the most influential and wealthiest witch family in New England, but when a coalition of rival witch families enacted a major curse, they stripped the the Abbot family of that position for all time. In the twenty-first century, the Abbot family are little more than Ipswich's version of white-trash. While the family is large, it is also poverty stricken and due to a curse placed upon them in the 17th century, they find themselves unlucky when it comes to any kind of wealth.
