Nosferatu Adair Simpkin.jpg

Appearance

Adair was born fair haired with the light blue eyes of his father's family, but bore the dusky complexion of his mother's family. During early childhood he grew quickly with a steady diet of farm fresh foods and an abundance of fresh air and sunlight. His dusky complexion darkened by constant exposure to the sun and he was always dirty with loam from the fields or muddied from playing with younger siblings or the household dogs. Once passed puberty, he developed his father's thick, muscular build developed a light fringe of pale whiskers on his mischievous face.

The night of the Embrace, after he received the blood of his sire, his body began to change in sudden and terrible ways. That first night his screams were drowned out by the thunder of artillery, deep in the dark, winter cold tunnels below Fort Douaumont as his bones contorted within his dying body, his hair fell out in clumps and his skin took on the color and consistency of a pale leech. While his skin grew pale and wet, his body began to emit an effluvia of sulfur - like the myths surrounding demonic things. Most of the teeth of his upper mouth became reminiscent of those borne by carnivores and his fangs never developed the capacity to retract. Adair's eyes, once the color of Kentucky sky turned red, giving him a bloody stare. Lastly, his slick pale gray skin conformed to his bones and muscles as all the fat and soft-tissues dissolved, leaving him looking emaciated and feral.

Adair still wears the uniform he died in, including a W.W.1. trench-coat, motorcycle goggles and a scarf to cover his now monstrous face.

Behavior

Adair grew up watching the boys and men around him die of black-lung, explosions and cave-ins. So he grew up with a live fast and devil take the hindmost attitude. His reasoning was that if you don't take risks, you cannot stay ahead of the looming disaster, whatever that might be. His choice to fight in the Great War was a direct application of that theory. While Adair did want to see something new and go someplace more interesting, he also figured that if he was going to die violently, he wanted to chose the place if not the time. His devil-may-care attitude is loosely kept in check by his strict upbringing and the brutal discipline of the U.S. Army wherein he trained.

History

Adair was born on a small farm a few miles outside of Morganfield, Union County, Kentucky in 1890. He was the middle child of a extended Kentuckian mining family who originally emigrated to the new world before the Thirteen British colonies declared themselves independent from the greater empire. His father was a 6th generation miner who married a shepherd's daughter to produce over a dozen children. As the middle child, Adair was regularly overlooked and had to fight to gain the things he most wanted. While an intelligent boy, he would take risks that most of his siblings wouldn't dare and managed to survive each and everyone. This devil-may-care attitude combined with a deeply instilled sense of familial duty made him a natural for the coal mines.
