Jamie's Esoterica

Level 2 Thaumaturgy based on Spirit Magic

This ritual creates a small straw figurine that can temporarily relieve the effects of a curse (harmful magical effect) on the caster. It is generally taught to apprentices in preparation for more powerful magical defenses.

System: The caster creates a small (about three inch high) figurine out of straw, corn husks, and a bit of his own hair and spit. While crafting the effigy, the caster recites a chant designed to draw the poisonous magic out of himself and into the figurine. When complete, the magic of the figurine traps it there for a number of hours equal to the successes on the casting minus the difference in level between the figurine of Relief and the curse.

The beginning of the Curse-Breaking Series

I've had this on my character sheet as a level 1, and the general idea was that it would be extremely easy to cast due to its extremely limited efficacy. To be honest, though, I'm not sure it shouldn't be a level 2 - its effect is perhaps beyond what a level 1 should be able to do - affecting other magic. Perhaps if the sacrifice were increased - by requiring willpower for instance? - Jamie

Reply: Actually, I agree completely. It really should be a level 2 ritual based on the complicated effects it has on other enchantments. Though sacrifice has potential here, I think just increasing the level would be more appropriate. Save the sacrifices for more important magics. - Bruce (06/01/12)

Agreed. Moved to Level 2. -Jamie
