Roman Cast of Characters
Appearance: Brutus possesses a fairly good combination of Latin and Brythonic traits. He is tall by any standards and towers over his fellow legionaries. He is broad of shoulder and heavily muscled, easily equaling the mass of any other two legionaries. His hair is cropped short in the Roman way, but he wears a short beard like his father. He is tan like his father, but with fair hair and light colored eyes like his mother. Though he is aging, he shows no sign of his actual age and women find him desirable and fit for the war of Eros.
Background: Brutus is the eldest son of Martinus Pontius, a minor officer in the Ninth Legion and the Brythonic tribeswoman Feidlimid. With his father's aid, he joined the Ninth Legion on his fifteenth birthday and proved himself a capable fighter. But before he could begin to rise in the ranks, he had to forge his warlike nature in the discipline of the Legions. He cut his teeth in the border wars of Legatus Ulpius Marcellus during the reign of Emperor Commodus, son and inheritor Marcus Aurelius. He has risen from a common legionary to the position of Optio, a steady rise in authority and command. As he nears his twenty-fifth year in the legions, he is likely to be chosen the Primus Pilus (First Spear) of the Ninth Legion. On a personal note, he is husband to Luigsech, daughter of a Brythonic chieftain and they have been married for twenty years. He is father to seven sons and six daughters; he is grandfather to over sixty-five grand-children. As a is the norm among the Brythonic and Roman men alike, he has had countless lovers, many wartime conquests and countless bastards.
Personality: Brutus is a man of his passions, but his age and experiences have taught him a balance between calculated necessity and following pure instinct. Though originally illiterate, he has learned Roman letters and numerals, as such he became officer material, despite his low birth. Though a veteran lover, he never dishonors his wife or family with his conquests, he is simply a warrior with a legendary appetite for women. Despite this, being an ardent lover is only an avocation, his true calling is war and he never forgets the truth of his nature.
Current Events: The Pict assault against the Ninth Legion and the village of Procolita has lead him on a mission of vengeance against the Picts. Their murder of his parents twenty years ago, the murder of Luigsech and their beloved children now, leads him to expose himself to constant risk in his search for satisfaction. His march with the First Century of the Ninth Legion into Caledonia has netted two successful battles, the recovery of his daughters and nieces, and the heads of three Pict war-chiefs. The only question that remains unanswered is what connects him to the dark Druid Cathbhadh and where the limit of his vengeance lies.
