The Story
Henry Stern the Toreador vampire and Ostanes the Order of Hermes mage attend the British arm of 1900 Universal Exposition at Kensington Gardens off of Bayswater Road in Westminster, London. The British exposition is smaller and more intimate as these two supernaturals enter a tent to watch a display of futuristic technology, an infinity engine, and inadvertently stumble into an otherworldly murder mystery.
From the moment the body is discovered the two unlikely associates become allies in a hunt for a supernatural killer whose evil could conceivably lead to the destruction of London itself.
Ostanes who has associated himself with the Mask of Apollo has a vision of the Goddess Shodoshi who asks him to find her relics, stones she tells him are her tears. He tells her he doesn't know what she is talking about, but says he will look into it. After having the vision he visits with his friend Vargo Zamtredia who reports that the Differential Engine he has built has been stolen from the demonstration area Vargo had set up. Vargo tells Ostanes that the engine magnifies any energy input given it up to a thousand times in strength.
Ostanes and Henry both read handbills talking about a new invention that will produce vast amounts of electricity being demonstrated at a park location away from the fair grounds. Each decides to attend to see what kind of engine this is.
Upon arrival they attend with a large crowd. A group of men enter and proceed to give a flamboyant demonstration. The machine loudly begins to pulse, and the temperature of the tent drops quickly, the lights in the tent dim. Several people in the tent begin to feel light headed, and a woman screams, faints. The machine seems to short circuit, and the men running the demonstration apologize, and usher everyone out.
The only person left in the tent is a mans body at the back of the seating, his body smoking. Henry sees the body and recognizes the vampire Justin Lannel. He was tied to the seat with wires attached to him. Ostanes sees several Men in Gray leaving the tent. Both attempt to find the Men after they leave, with no success. Henry decides he needs to tell Don Cerro what happened. Ostanes travels with him to the meeting.
After speaking to Don Cerro Henry then goes to see Horace Holden, his sire.
After returning from Paris the group began to search for the Uruk Raksha. They investigated The 25 killed at Brondin Industrial Factory. They went to Van Lerdans Meat Shop, and visited Halim Bey. Bey told them he had sold a faked copy of the Lists of Werdheri to a group of young people three months ago.
